Day 5 - (Actually a continuation of Day 4 because we didn't sleep. We went from one day to a red eye flight into a next full day in Siberia).
But, we made it. We are actually in Siberia. Krasnoyarsk, Siberia.
After flying all night on a red eye flight from Moscow, we landed at a very small airport in Krasnoyarsk. There is only one room where you go through security and retrieve your luggage. Our host was standing to greet us as soon as we departed the plane's doors. These planes are not like that in America. You actually take really steep steps to get up in the plane (it reminded me of all of the photos of the president exiting Air Force One).
I was extremely anxious and hesitant about our transportation to the city. Looking around at the cars, there weren't too many I would even trust riding in. (Remind me to show you a picture of what they look like when I return.) Instead, our host teacher had her brother pick us up in his brand new Range Rover. I was set. My fears were eased for a little, until we headed off into the hillside at a rather fast speed, creating additional lanes when clearly there was no room to make an extra lane for the road. I was relieved to make it to the hotel.
At the hotel we were greeted by our other teacher host. We dropped off our bags and passports and headed off to another great adventure in Russia. Due to my lack of sleep - I'm making this brief...we sat through school presentations, visited and met each teacher at the school, ate breakfast and lunch at the school, introduced ourselves to all that we came in contact with, interacted with a few students. We then took our arranged tour of their history museum, a walking tour of the city, checked out a local shopping mall, and stopped by a bank. Needless to say, my legs are aching and I'm dead tired.
I'm now resting up for a rather filled week ahead for us in Krasnoyarsk. The hosts have engagements planned from morning to night, each day, every hour. It should be interesting.
On a positive note, all were extremely nice at the school. They are very grateful to have us and be able to collaborate with us when we return home. Our hotel room is small, but doable. Can't wait to share all of my pics and interactions with the students. That's what I look forward to the most, spending time with the students.
